Toxic Love
I've always been a dreamer. I spend most of my time in my thoughts, and anything can work as inspiration for my next song or poem, just like the following poem, which came about from waking up to my sister's alarm clock (it had a nice melody to it).
Toxic Love
As time passes I love you more.
No offence, sometimes I don't even know what I love you for.
On the days that we fight,
On the lonelier nights,
When you say that I'm wrong, but I know that I'm right.
Let's not argue tonight,
Let's just switch off the lights.
You know what I like,
So when the moment is right, you scoot a little closer and you hold me tight.
But the bliss normally never lasts too long,
It's like a track, and once we've reached the end of the song,
You proceed to continue to string me along.
First I'm high, then I'm low,
It's the seeds that you sow that continue to grow,
And I say I'm unphased but I can't tell you no.
I keep hanging on because I can't let you go.
Are you in love with me or just in love with the feeling?
Do you want me or just the "sexual healing"?
There are days when I feel like I'm your whole world,
And then days when I feel like I'm just the next girl.
You treat me so nice, then you're back to being cruel
Why do I feel like I'm in some type of duel?
You're draining my energy and using it as fuel,
To project your insecurities instead of treating me like a jewel.
That's right, I'm the prize and sometimes I forget it.
This has been dragging on for too long, but only because I let it.
I'm regaining my stance, going back to being regal
The way you've been treating me should be seen as illegal.
I'll no longer budge when you lure me in with sweet words and sweet kisses,
Love should not be about the hits and then the misses.
True love is not about "the more pain, the more gain,"
It shouldn't be about two people driving each other insane.
I'm done with being down,
I'm done with all the pain
I'm giving up on us,
I'm flushing us down the drain.
It's time for a new beginning, I'm no longer the same.
Maybe you'll think about it before giving the next woman your surname.
